Our Singapore Water Story
4 National Taps
Currently Singapore’s daily water consumption is ~430 million gallons (45% from domestic, 55% from non-domestic). It is projected that by 2060, the value could rise up to 860 million gallons per day. And as such, we need a sustainable source of water to ensure that this quota can be met.

Singapore imports up to 250 million gallons of water daily from Johor Bahru. The agreements made in 1962 and 1990 will expire in 2061.

Currently, we have 4 desalination plants with a total capacity of 160mgd, covering up to 30% of SIngapore's current water needs. A fifth desalination plant is currently being built to boost our capacity further.

Two-thirds of Singapore's land area serves as water catchment. Rain that falls in this area is channelled through drains, canals, rivers and stormwater collection ponds to our reservoirs.

NEWater is high-grade reclaimed water produced using advanced membrane technologies. Mainly used by industries and added to reservoirs during dry periods.
